What Is DEX (Delta Exposure)?
If GEX tells you how volatile the tape will be, DEX hints at which way the dealer hedging is leaning. Together they sketch the positioning picture.

DEX (delta exposure) aggregates dealers’ net directional (delta) positioning across all strikes — a companion metric to GEX (gamma exposure) that hints at which way dealer hedging is leaning.
What DEX measures
Where GEX captures how much dealers must hedge as price moves (volatility damping/amplifying), DEX captures the directional tilt of their book — the net delta they’re carrying. A large net dealer delta implies hedging pressure in a particular direction as conditions change, adding a directional read on top of GEX’s volatility read.
How it’s used
Analysts watch DEX alongside GEX and the higher-order exposures (vanna exposure, charm exposure) to build a fuller positioning picture. Like all these aggregates, it’s an estimate built on assumptions about who’s long/short, so providers’ numbers differ — treat it as directional context, not gospel.
GEX is the “how much will it move” gauge; DEX adds a “which way is the book leaning” gauge. Two views of the same dealer positioning.
What it means for a scalper
DEX is advanced context, not a signal — it’s one more input into reading the dealer regime. For most scalpers, the gamma regime and the levels matter more day to day. NoVo focuses on the actionable structure the full positioning builds, not a wall of exposure numbers.
