VWAP + 9 EMA Confluence for Trend-Pullback Entries
A pullback to VWAP is decent. A pullback to VWAP and the 9 EMA at the same spot is a confluence — two dynamic supports the trend has to defend.
NoVo Options Trading · 2026
In a trend, both VWAP and a short EMA (the 9) act as dynamic support/resistance that price pulls back to. When they sit close together, a pullback into that zone hits two support lines at once — confluence that makes for a higher-odds continuation entry.
The setup
You need a genuine trend (VWAP sloping, 9 EMA above the 21 in an uptrend) and price pulling back into the VWAP/9-EMA zone. The two lines converging is the key — when they're stacked, the pullback is testing two references simultaneously, and the trend needs to hold both to stay healthy.
Entry, target, stop
Entry: the bounce off the VWAP/9-EMA zone — a reversal candle that holds the confluence and resumes the trend (buy calls in an uptrend). Target: the prior swing high or the next level up. Stop: a decisive close below the zone — losing both VWAP and the 9 EMA together is a real trend-health warning.
One dynamic support is a lean; VWAP and the 9 EMA stacked is a zone the trend must defend. Buy the bounce, stop below both.
When it's strongest
Best in a supportive regime (trend + negative gamma, or a clean positive-gamma grind) and when the VWAP/9-EMA zone also lines up with a mapped dealer level — three supports at one price is an A-plus pullback. Skip it in chop, where VWAP is flat and the EMAs are tangled — there's no trend for the pullback to resume. The lines are context; price holding the zone is the confirmation.
